How we use AI

AI is part of how a lot of work gets made now, including ours. We use it as one tool among many. It helps with parts of the process. It doesn’t come up with the idea, make the decisions or sign off on the work. That’s still us.

AI is part of how a lot of work gets made now, including ours. We use it as one tool among many. It helps with parts of the process. It doesn’t come up with the idea, make the decisions or sign off on the work. That’s still us.

This page explains how that works in practice, so you know what to expect when we work together.

What AI does and doesn’t do here

What AI does and doesn’t do here

AI can help us explore, organize and produce. It can’t tell us what your organization is trying to say, who you’re trying to reach or whether an idea is right for you. That comes from conversations, experience and judgment, and it’s the part of the work we care about most.

So every project starts with people and ends with people. Concepts, creative direction, writing that goes out under your name and the final call on every deliverable all come from us.

What we hold to

What we hold to

Nothing goes out raw.

If we use AI-generated imagery, illustration or video, it’s a starting point. Every generated asset is edited and refined in professional tools before it becomes part of your work, and it stays within what we’ve agreed with you.

Everything gets reviewed.

Accuracy, quality, originality, accessibility and fit with your brand, whatever tools were involved. Facts, numbers and quotes are checked by a person. Nothing made up goes out as real.

Real things stay real.

We don’t use AI to change how a real person, product, place or event looks in a way that misrepresents it.

Your information stays protected.

Clients share things with us that aren’t public yet: campaigns, plans, files, access to accounts. We use only what a task needs. Confidential material only goes into an AI tool when that use is allowed and the right safeguards are in place. Passwords and account access never go into AI tools.

Your rules come first.

If you have guidelines about AI, from your organization, a funder or anyone else, tell us before we start and we’ll follow them for your project.

We stay responsible.

However something was made, if it has our name on it, we answer for it.

Questions clients ask

Questions clients ask

Will my project include AI-generated images?

Will my project include AI-generated images?

Only if it’s the right call for the work and within what we’ve agreed with you. When we do, they’re refined in professional tools first. We never deliver generated output as it came out of the tool.

Is my information used to train AI?

Is my information used to train AI?

We check how each tool handles data, including whether it keeps or learns from what’s shared, before we use it with anything confidential. If we’re not sure a tool is right for your material, it doesn’t go in.

Can I ask you not to use AI on my project?

Can I ask you not to use AI on my project?

Yes. Tell us before we start, and we’ll talk through what that means for the project.

Who owns the work?

Who owns the work?

You own your deliverables as set out in our agreement. One thing worth knowing: under current law, AI-generated elements may have limited copyright protection, even after refinement. If that matters for something like a logo or a trademark, tell us and we’ll plan the work around it.

What if something goes wrong?

What if something goes wrong?

If information ends up somewhere it shouldn’t, or we miss something we agreed to, we’ll tell you promptly and work with you to fix it.

Does this ever change?

Does this ever change?

AI tools change quickly, so we review how we use them at least once a year. We’ll update this page when anything important changes.
